TODAY’S QUESTION? WHERE IS ADAD / MUTHARIKA? DPP’s Silence Raises Worries About His Health.

MUTHARIKA

People are getting worried because no one knows where former President Peter Mutharika is, or how he is doing. Some reports say he is sick and may have gone to South Africa for medical treatment. But the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), his political party, is not saying anything clear.

So far, the only reply has come from DPP member Mary Navicha, who sent a short WhatsApp message saying, “It’s fake,” and later added, “Thanks for sharing.” That didn’t calm people’s fears — it just made them more worried.

Many people are now talking on social media, wondering if Mutharika is really in South Africa. When reporters tried to contact the DPP spokesperson, Shadric Namalomba, he didn’t answer any phone calls. This has made people even more suspicious, with some thinking the party is hiding something.

This is not the first time DPP has kept quiet about a serious matter. In 2012, the party didn’t tell the truth about the death of then-President Bingu wa Mutharika. At the time, they said he was “resting” in South Africa, but in reality, he had already passed away from a heart attack. That situation left many Malawians confused and upset, and it damaged the party’s reputation. Now, it seems like the same thing might be happening again.

If Peter Mutharika is in South Africa, why won’t the DPP say so? Why are they not telling the public the truth?

The People Deserve to Know

Peter Mutharika is not just a former president — he is still an important political figure and may run for president again in 2025. That means the public has a right to know about his health and whereabouts.

Mary Navicha’s short reply isn’t enough. The public needs clear and honest information, not short texts that don’t explain anything.

Where Are the Leaders?

It is very worrying that no top DPP official has come forward to explain what is going on. Are they disorganized, or are they hiding something?

If Mutharika really is in South Africa, the party should say so clearly. The people of Malawi deserve the truth — not silence and unanswered phones.

The Truth Matters

As the country moves toward another election, all political leaders need to be open and honest. The DPP has a history of keeping secrets, but that needs to change.

So again, the question remains: Where is Peter Mutharika? Is he okay? Is he even in Malawi?

If there is nothing to hide, the DPP should speak up now — before it’s too late, like last time.
