The Saulos Klaus Chilima (SKC) Foundation has donated medical items valued at K16.9 million to Ntcheu District Hospital, in a charitable act marking one year since the passing of Malawi’s former Vice President, Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima.
The donation, presented by the foundation’s chairperson Mary Chilima — widow of the late vice president — is part of a series of commemorative events aimed at honoring and preserving Chilima’s legacy.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mary Chilima emphasized that the donation was not only a tribute to her late husband but also a gesture of service to the community close to his final resting place.
“The SKC Foundation is aimed at perpetrating Chilima’s legacy, so this is part of continuing this,” she said. “As we commemorate that 365 days have elapsed since his death, we thought of not only mourning but donating to this hospital which is close to where we buried him.”
She also revealed that the funds used to procure the items were raised through contributions from the public, reflecting the enduring support and admiration many still hold for the late vice president.
In response, Ntcheu District Hospital’s Director of Health and Social Services, Innocent Mhango, expressed heartfelt gratitude for the timely donation.
“We are grateful because this has come at the right time when, as a council, we were considering opening a High Dependency Unit. These items will play a crucial role in this,” Mhango said.
The SKC Foundation has continued to position itself as a driver of social impact in Malawi, supporting health, education, and community development initiatives in line with the values Dr. Chilima championed during his lifetime.
