UTM’s Vice President for the South, Richard Makondi, has promised to bring real change to the new Chilomoni-Kabula-Nancholi Constituency as he officially announced he will run for Member of Parliament in the September 16 elections.
Makondi, who used to be a businessman before joining politics, says the area has been ignored for many years and needs a strong leader to bring development.
“This place has been forgotten for too long. The people need someone who understands how to bring change and can actually do it,” said Makondi while speaking to local UTM leaders in Manase, Blantyre.
Makondi told the crowd that he is different from other candidates because he has real-life experience in business. He believes this experience will help him bring in help from outside government to develop the area.
“I know how to work with different groups and get support for projects that can improve people’s lives. We don’t need more empty promises — we need real work,” he said.
If elected, Makondi says he will focus on fixing the bad roads in the area, pushing for a public secondary school to be built, and fighting unemployment by using UTM’s plans to support small businesses and job creation.
“UTM has good plans like building small factories and helping young people start businesses. I want to make sure our people not only get help but also learn to support themselves,” he said.
As election day gets closer, Makondi is working harder to reach more people and encouraging them to vote for change and real progress.
