Dr. Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, who is currently in Ghana, took a very emotional and thoughtful trip to the Cape Coast Castle — a place where many Africans were held before being forced onto ships during the transatlantic slave trade. The castle has dark, cold dungeons and the sad “Door of No Return,” through which enslaved Africans were taken, never to come back. It is a powerful symbol of pain, loss, and cruelty.
While at the castle, Dr. Zikhale spent time honoring the memory of those ancestors who were taken from Africa, treated like property, and sent far away to work as slaves on farms, in mines, and in other terrible conditions.
“This visit reminds us of the deep pain in our history,” Dr. Zikhale said. “We can never forget what was done to our people. Their stories must push us to fight for fairness, care for one another, and protect human rights for everyone.”
He also talked about the Africans who helped the slave traders — people like Mlozi and Jumbe — who helped capture and sell their fellow Africans to get rich or gain power. “These people betrayed their own, and history will not forgive them,” he said strongly.
Dr. Zikhale’s visit to this painful place reminds us that we must learn from the past if we want a better future. He called on everyone to keep learning, to speak up for justice, and to protect African history and identity.
