Dedza, Malawi — June 10, 2025
June 10 will be remembered as a day of unrelenting sorrow for the Dzimbiri family — a date now forever stained with grief, shock, and unbearable loss.
Just days after the nation mourned the passing of former First Lady Patricia Shanil Dzimbiri in the tragic plane crash that also claimed the life of Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima, the Dzimbiri family has been dealt another devastating blow. On the very same date, June 10, Mr. Vincent Dzimbiri — Patricia’s brother — has passed away.
According to reports, Vincent Dzimbiri fell critically ill immediately after receiving the heartbreaking news of his sister’s death. The emotional shock, compounded by the weight of national mourning, proved too much for his heart to bear. He was admitted to Dedza District Hospital, where he passed away today.
As the funeral of Patricia Shanil Dzimbiri enters its fourth day, the Dzimbiri family now finds itself preparing for yet another burial. The grief is unimaginable.
“It is as though the soul of the family is being torn apart piece by piece,” said one close family friend through tears. “We don’t know how to comprehend this. June 10 has become a curse for this family.”
Wailing, disbelief, and deep sorrow now fill the Dzimbiri household, with mourners pouring in to console a family stricken by double tragedy. The pain is raw, the silence between sobs heavy — a reflection of a family shattered by loss in a matter of hours.
The community in Dedza stands united in mourning, but even their support can only do so much. For the Dzimbiris, June 10 will never be just another day. It is a scar etched forever on their hearts.
As the nation continues to grieve its leaders, one family’s pain echoes louder — a painful reminder of how personal national tragedies can become.
